Annual Spring Fling!

The Texas Mountain Raiders had their 3rd Annual Spring Fling in April. The event was a huge success, especially in part due to the organizers and volunteers, but also due to the excellent turn-out from members and guests, all things considered...

Here's what our president, Kevin Spinnato, had to say about the event:

I wanted to send out a note to everyone and thank you all for coming out and making the Spring Fling another great success this year. For the second year in a row the weather was a bit 'spicey' on Friday night, but the day of the event turned out great...nothing like tradition right. The numbers are still coming in, but we had roughly 40 people at the event on Saturday and that is fantastic as far as I'm concerned for a group our size. Paul and James were thinking the numbers might have been a bit higher if the Tornado's hadn't been predicted, and as it turned out, showed up on Friday night, but everybody stayed safe and we lost no tents like the year before so all is well.

Club Climb Nights

Club climb nights are the best way to become familiar with club members and keep you in shape for climbing on real rock. Tuesday is our designated club climbing night at the Texas Rock Gym Memorial. Friday there are usually club members hanging out at the Stone Moves gym in League City. Visitors are welcome. Contact our gym climb coordinator for information on the happenings of any specific night.

Directions: To get to TRG, take the Campbell exit off I-10, go north and cross light at Westview, their white building will soon be seen on the right...

Club Meetings

Club meetings are held at the Texas Rock Gym. Meetings allow the club to introduce new members and discuss any upcoming trips. Meetings are typically short (10 minutes or less) as we climb afterwards. Visitors are welcome. Contact our local events coordinator for information on meetings.

Enchanted Rock Climbs

Club trips to Enchanted Rock are typically the best way for members to develop their rock climbing skills. A special Enchanted Rock Trip Guide has been written for information on club trips to Enchanted Rock.

Events at Star Pizza Expresso

Club events at Star Pizza Expresso typically have no fixed agenda except for a potential slide presentations shown at the tail end of the night. Everyone is encouraged to bring photos of their latest climbs, swap climbing stories and order some dinner. All climbers are welcome, not just club members. Contact our local events coordinator for information.

Some events also include a gear swap where everyone is welcome to bring gear they want to sell or trade.

Long Range Climbing Trips

The club does not officially schedule long range trips, instead, long range TMR trips are birthed though the desire of a club member or group of members deciding they want to climb at a particular location or at a particular time and are interested in others attending. From this point, a trip coordinator is determined and they solicit invitations to others, either in mass or sometimes in private. Private climbs occur due to the expected difficulties of obtaining the objective of the climb and the members may wish to tailor the team to best match that. It's generally expected that all team members attempt to pitch in with the planning of a long range trip to help out the primary coordinator.

If you want to learn to climb on a particular long-range trip then your ability to participate will depend on where the trip is destined. Usually, you should check with one of the club officers or the organizer of a specific trip to review the possibilities. Some of the long-range trips are NOT for beginners while some locations are accommodating of beginners. If you don't intend on climbing you may still be able to attend the trip.

In the past, long range trips have gone to places like El Potrero Chico in Mexico, The Continental Ranch near Del Rio, Hueco Tanks near El Paso as well as various locations in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Washington, Montana, Nevada and Oregon.
